When it comes to the hair trends of the season, exaggerated looks attract attention. The ’80s-inspired bouffant and voluminous hair has been seen on the runways of Savage X Fenty, Rick Owens, Alaia, Hermes, Etro and more.
TIPS FOR voluminous hair
These hair hacks will add volume to your hair instantly!
USE A SHORT CUT
The longer the fine hair grows, the flatter it becomes. It’s just a fact of physics… The shorter the hair, the more volume it has. Even trimming just a few inches from your hair can help. However, if you want the most volume for your fine hair, it’s best to keep your hair length above the collarbone.
ADD (OR DO NOT ADD) LAYERS
Layers have traditionally been considered a great way to add volume to fine hair. They add both dimension and movement. But be careful not to over layer. Too many layers can leave you with a very choppy style. Make sure the longest layer is at least in your ear. Also, remember that thinning hair is not the same as layering. Some women have fine but abundant hair and may need to be thinned to get rid of some of their hair.
There is an advantage to going for a one-length cut if you have fine hair. A one-length cut makes the hair look the thickest. It adds strength and volume to your hair.
MAKE THE SHAMPOO CHOICE RIGHT
Many women use the wrong shampoo for their hair. As you probably know, fine hair can look greasy even after just a day and your shampoo may not help the problem. If you have fine hair, stay away from creamy shampoos formulated for thick, lush hair. Instead, opt for shampoos designed to add volume.
SHAMPOO THE RIGHT WAY
Many women with fine hair can have greasy roots. While shampoo can reduce these oils, your hair ends probably just need conditioning. You may even need to avoid daily shampoo. The trick is to find a balance between the two and everyone will need to find what works best for their hair.
This shampooing is a solution that works for many beautiful-haired women. Wet the hair and apply the shampoo only to the scalp and roots. Cleanse the roots thoroughly by massaging the shampoo into the scalp. Don’t go down to the ends. Apply conditioner to the lower two-thirds of your hair, avoiding the scalp. Rinse off shampoo and conditioner. As the shampoo runs down the hair, it rinses out the conditioner as well.
USE HAIR CREAM CORRECTLY
Since fine hair can be susceptible to knots and tangling, you should use a light volumizing conditioner in the shower and avoid heavier options. We also recommend conditioner before shampooing, as conditioners often leave residue and weigh down the hair; shampoo takes care of that.
Only apply conditioner to the lower two-thirds of your hair. If you apply it to the hair roots and scalp; You will only make your hair heavier.
AIR DRYING
After showering, dry your hair with a towel (do not rub) and spray the crown with a root-strengthening or volumizing spray, then allow to air dry. Once your hair is dry, you can see it straighten out within a few hours. Instead of applying more product, reactivate the product you apply after washing your hair by wetting your fingers with water and massaging your scalp and the top of your head.
BACK DRYING
Start by towel-drying your hair until it’s as dry as possible. When it comes to fine hair, “hard drying” is essential. Spray the air all over your hair with the blow dryer while roughening the roots with your fingers. Bend at the waist and dry your hair by holding the blow dryer from below. This adds removal to the roots. After your hair is dry, spray cool air over your entire head. This creates fullness and loosens the blow dry.
INVEST IN THE RIGHT PRODUCTS
For fine hair that flatters, the key to bouncy and voluminous hair lies in the product. Look for products labeled volumizing. Just be careful not to overuse the products. Too much can actually reduce the weight of the hair instead of lifting it.
Use creams and serums sparingly; Never use near the scalp and roots. If you need to use one of these to reduce frizz, use the “palm method”: place a pea-sized amount in the palm of your hand. Rub your palms together and then rub the product only on the areas where it is needed most.
VISIT THE FOAM AGAIN
If you last used foam in the 1990s, don’t worry, it’s come a long way since then. Today’s formulas add volume without making your hair stiff. Use a golf ball-sized amount in the palm of your hand and apply from the roots to the middle of your hair. It will plump your strands while leaving them soft.
CHANGE YOUR LIFE WITH DRY SHAMPOO
Today’s dry shampoos work wonders when it comes to adding volume to very slippery, soft or oily hair. Dry shampoo should become a staple among any fine-haired woman’s beauty supplies.
The beauty of dry shampoo shows itself on your oily hair days. Spray or sprinkle dry shampoo onto your hairline, let it dry, and then brush it off. Not only will it save you a day or two between washes, it will also absorb oils and add volume.
VOLUME WITH HAIR SPRAY
Hairspray can also help add volume, but it’s best when aimed directly at your crown. After blow-drying hair, apply hairspray throughout the crown. Massage your roots at the top.
Most women have a natural wave in their hair. Spray salt spray on damp hair to reveal yours. After spraying the hair, style with your hands as your hair dries.
BENEFIT FROM CURL
Curls are a great way to add volume and body to hair. You can use a good curling iron, but rollers are best to increase volume around the crown. Many hairdressers make use of curls for bouncy hair because it gives hair a lush fullness that you can’t get any other way.
RISE WITH THE CREPE COMB
Nothing adds volume to fine hair like a proper brushing. It takes some practice, but it can make a world of difference. Make sure to completely remove the teeth of the crepe comb from your hair after each gentle, downward stroke. This way, you’re actually building the mass of hair, not just pushing it.
