“I certainly don’t see myself as a ‘fashion icon’ but I absolutely love this art form,” said Lenny Kravitz, who although he doesn’t consider himself a fashion icon, he will now be referred to as a registered icon! Admired by the fashion industry and many brands, Lenny Kravitz will receive the ‘Fashion Icon’ award at this year’s CFDA Fashion Awards.
Lenny Kravitz, one of the most beloved names in rock music, was on the rise with his debut album ‘Let Love Rule’ in 1989. One of the most listened artists in the 2000s, Lenny Kravitz made Grammy history as the name with the most awards in this category, winning the ‘Best Male Rock Vocal Performance’ award four times in a row between 1999 and 2002.
Kravitz, who is known not only for his music career but also for his style, said that he was inspired by names such as Jimi Hendrix, Miles Davis, Prince, David Bowie and Yves Saint Laurent for his fashion sense. “I could name a lot of great names, but my first inspiration was my mother,” Kravitz says. “I don’t remember a time when she didn’t look perfect. It showed how important it is to appear as your best, both inside and out. That’s what fashion icon means to me,” she added.
Having mutual admiration with the fashion industry, Kravitz has been at the forefront of fashion weeks since the 90s. Lenny Kravitz also appeared alongside his daughter, Zoe Kravitz, who became the face of Saint Laurent in 2020. “Fashion is another avenue for artistic expression. There are no rules other than being yourself. If what I’m doing helps or inspires someone to feel more confident in their own body, there’s nothing more I could ask for. It all comes from me. Just be you,” Kravitz says, “It’s definitely a part of my life. I get inspiration wherever I can. It could be an outfit or a look I noticed. This can go beyond what I’m wearing on any given day and become a design idea or an element of the live show. I try not to think too much about it because it’s best when it suddenly comes,” he added.
