Knee osteoarthritis is a problem that limits daily life activities and also causes pain. Orthopedics and Traumatology Specialist Op. Dr. Alperen Korucu gave information about the subject.

WHAT IS KNEE Calcification?
Calcification occurs as a result of the wear and loss of the cartilage tissue, which has a slippery feature that covers the bone surfaces in the joints and also allows the joint to move freely. If this wear occurs in the knee joint, it is called knee osteoarthritis.
WHO SEE IT?
Knee arthritis is more common in people over 50 years old, that is, people over a certain age. Knee arthritis, which is a disease of middle and advanced age, is rarely seen before the age of 40.
WHAT ARE THE SYMPTOMS OF KNEE Calcification?
Knee pain negatively affects quality of life. It causes pain while walking and climbing stairs, along with severe limitation of movement. The knees are the largest load-bearing joint in the body. During walking, the knees are loaded at the rate of 3 times the body weight. In people with knee joint calcification, the pain becomes severe due to this load on the knees.
Symptoms of knee osteoarthritis are manifested by difficulty in walking, pain, limitation of movement, stiffness, swelling and burning sensation. But pain is the most obvious symptom.
It occurs at first when moving or later in the day and is relieved when resting. If the disorders in the articular cartilage progress, pain may be felt when climbing stairs, carrying loads, going uphill and even at rest.
WHAT CAUSES Calcification on the Knee?
Knee osteoarthritis can occur due to many factors. Some of these factors are; advancing age, weakened muscles around the knee, osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, trauma, cartilage death, excessive activity, overweight.
HOW IS IT DIAGNOSED?
In the diagnosis of knee osteoarthritis, first the patient’s history is listened to, and then a detailed examination by a specialist doctor is required. In addition, x-rays and, if necessary, magnetic resonance imaging and some blood tests are performed.
WHICH METHODS ARE APPLICABLE IN THE TREATMENT OF Calcification?
Kiss. Dr. Alperen Korucu,”For treatment, arthroplasty (prosthetic surgery) operations are applied to the knee joint in people over 65 years old. Prosthesis surgery is a good option for people who do not respond to drug therapy, intra-articular injection and physical therapy. Important points in applications are the patient’s weight, age, general condition and whether there is a systemic disease accompanying the disease.
