Vitamin D deficiency in babies causes blood pressure problems

When babies are born, pediatricians may encourage both mother and baby to take vitamin D supplements. There are small drops of vitamin D that babies can get at birth so they can get their essential vitamins.

Recent studies have shown that most babies and new mothers have low levels of vitamin D, and a deficiency of this vitamin can actually cause a short-term and long-term problem.

Causes hypertension

One study found that 60% of children with low levels of vitamin D compared with children with adequate vitamin D levels. demonstrated high blood pressure between the ages of 18 and 18 years. Children with persistently low levels of vitamin D in early childhood are at a considerably higher risk of developing hypertension between the ages of 3 and 18.

High blood pressure in children has been increasing in recent years. High blood pressure will become a bigger problem as children get older. Unhealthy blood pressure can lead to many different health problems, including cardiovascular disease. Lead author of the study, Dr. Guoying Wang, “Our findings raise the possibility that screening and treatment for supplemental vitamin D deficiency during pregnancy and early childhood may be an effective approach to reducing high blood pressure later in life.” said
